Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After a short briefing, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to the famous Amboseli National Park. You’ll arrive at your budget safari camp or lodge in time for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive across the rolling plains of the Amboseli, spotting wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, and possibly lions. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Day in Amboseli National Park
Spend the entire day exploring the vast Amboseli, one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations. With a packed lunch, you’ll embark on morning and afternoon game drives in search of the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino — as well as cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, and a host of birdlife. Your driver-guide will help you spot animals and explain their behavior. Optionally, you can visit a nearby Maasai village to learn about the traditional way of life. Return to your budget accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Amboseli to Lake Nakuru
After an early breakfast, check out and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, located in the Rift Valley region. The drive takes about six hours and passes through scenic landscapes and small towns. You’ll arrive in Nakuru in the afternoon and check into a budget hotel. Have an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy dinner and a restful night in preparation for the next day’s game drive.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara
Day 5: Full Day Masai Mara
After an early breakfast at your camp or lodge, you’ll set out for a full-day game drive across the vast Maasai Mara Game Reserve, one of Africa’s richest wildlife ecosystems. With a packed picnic lunch provided by your lodge, you’ll spend the entire day exploring different areas of the park—from the open savannahs and rolling hills to the riverbanks of the Mara and Talek Rivers, where wildlife gathers in large numbers. Your guide will help you track and spot a wide range of animals, including the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—as well as cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, topis, gazelles, and hundreds of bird species. If you’re traveling during the migration season (July to October), you may witness dramatic scenes of wildebeests and zebras crossing the rivers, often stalked by crocodiles and big cats. Around midday, you’ll stop at a scenic spot in the reserve to enjoy your picnic lunch surrounded by nature. After lunch, the game drive continues as you explore different parts of the park, taking in the changing landscapes and searching for rare sightings like a leopard in the trees or a pride of lions on a hunt. In the late afternoon, as temperatures cool and animal activity increases, you’ll make your way back toward camp, arriving in time to relax before dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Departure
After your breakfast and check out, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your incredible 6-day Kenya wildlife safari.
