This 5-day safari combines breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and diverse wildlife across Samburu National Reserve and Lake Nakuru National Park. The journey begins and ends in Nairobi and is designed for travelers seeking an authentic Kenyan safari experience with full-board accommodation, professional guides, and game drives in a safari vehicle.
Day 1 – Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
The adventure starts in Nairobi and follows the northern corridor toward Samburu. As you leave the city, the scenery soon shifts to rolling farmlands, open plains, and views of Mount Kenya in the distance. The road passes through the central highlands and communities around towns like Nanyuki, offering glimpses of tea, coffee, and sisal plantations along the way. Upon arrival at Samburu National Reserve, you enjoy an afternoon game drive before settling into your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 – Safari in Samburu
The entire day is spent exploring Samburu National Reserve. Morning and afternoon game drives provide the opportunity to see elephants, lions, leopards, oryx, gerenuk, and other unique northern species including the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. Between drives, you relax and enjoy meals at the camp or lodge. Guests can also choose to visit a Samburu village to experience local culture, traditional dress, and song.
Day 3 – Samburu to Lake Nakuru (Great Rift Valley Route)
After breakfast, the safari departs Samburu and begins the journey south toward Lake Nakuru. The road offers expansive views of dry northern plains gradually transitioning into greener landscapes as you approach the Laikipia region. If requested, the route may include a stop at the equator. From there, the safari descends into the Great Rift Valley, with scenic viewpoints overlooking escarpments, volcanic formations, and ancient lakes. Arrival at Lake Nakuru is in the afternoon, with check-in followed by relaxation or an evening game drive before dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – Lake Nakuru National Park
This day focuses on exploring Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is famous for its rhino sanctuary, as well as lions, buffalos, giraffes, and seasonal flamingos shimmering across the lake surface. Morning and afternoon game drives take you through wooded areas, savannahs, rocky ridges, and viewpoints like Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill. The combination of wildlife, birdlife, and Rift Valley scenery makes Nakuru a premier safari destination. After a full day, you return to the lodge or camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5 – Lake Nakuru to Nairobi
The final journey retraces the Great Rift Valley route back to Nairobi. After an optional early morning game drive or nature walk followed by breakfast, you check out and drive past Lake Elementaita, small towns, escarpments, and panoramic viewpoints such as the Rift Valley escarpment near Naivasha. The scenery includes rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and farmland before re-entering the capital. Drop-off is arranged at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of the safari.
